The COVID-19 pandemic is now affecting the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Disney has postponed the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

According to Exhibitor Relations, the sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange has been given a new November 5th, 2021 release date, pushing it back nearly six months from its previous May 7th, 2021 calendar slot.

Back in February, it was reported that Sam Raimi was in discussions to take the helm of Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness, following Scott Derrickson's departure from the movie due to creative differences (although he's still on board as an executive producer of the latest film based on the Marvel comic book character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko).

Production was expected to begin in May, but that was before the coronavirus put social distancing and self-quarantines into effect.

In addition to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the releases of five other MCU films have also been delayed, including Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder, which was previously slated to come out on November 5th, 2021 and is now set for a February 18th, 2022 release.

We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as more details are revealed.
