After the release of Dead Island Riptide earlier this year, we were curious to find out what Deep Silver had planned next for the zombie series. Earlier this month they announced Dead Island: Epidemic, an upcoming "Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena" being developed for the PC. Today, we have the first set of screenshots and some more game details.

"...Dead Island: Epidemic, a new ZOMBA (Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena) game set in the ever-expanding Dead Island universe. Dead Island: Epidemic will pit three teams of players against each other in a desperate fight for survival. Dead Island: Epidemic is a Free-to-Play PC title that will feature all the trademark elements that are part of a Dead Island experience."

CVG learned that the game will support up to twelve players, that are split into four teams: "Each team has to battle both the other teams and the hordes of zombies roaming the island in order to be the winner. Zombies range from standard shambling types to heavily infected creatures and "freakish super bosses", the latter potentially requiring all three teams to co-operate in order to take them down.

A crafting system also features in the game, allowing players to forge their own customised weapon arsenal. According to Deep Silver: "There will be hundreds of weapons, trinkets and items that players can craft, and once crafted, these weapons can continue to be improved to fully suit a player's personality and play style."

A website has been set up at www.deadislandepidemic.com and you can sign up to get the latest news on Dead Island: Epidemic and possibly beta testing.
