Reports came out earlier this month that MGM had approached Brazilian director Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) to direct the reboot of Robocop. This now appears to be official, as G1 is reporting they have official confirmation from Padilha that he has closed the deal.

Josh Zetumer (Peter Berg's Dune project) was recently hired to script the reboot and MGM has put Robocop on the fast track since they have gotten out of some of their financial troubles. They are looking to leverage their top properties, with a new 007 film in the works, along with The Hobbit and now Robocop. We'll update this post when we receive additional confirmation and information on Jose Padilha's hiring.
