Scooby-Doo Reboot Moving Forward

The Mystery Machine is getting set to leave the shop and hit the road again: Warner Bros. has revealed that another feature film reboot of Scooby-Doo is in the works.

The mystery-solving teenagers and their lovable dog, having first crossed the small screen in a Saturday morning slot in the 1960's, are now getting set to return to theaters in a new way. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. wants to build from the ground up for the Mystery, Inc. gang's next adventure, as they've signed on Randall Green to pen a new story for the franchise's latest film. With a sequel ruled out, the actors who portrayed the young sleuths in the first two live-action films—Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini—will likely be replaced. There are no further casting or release details at this time, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated as this story develops.

The announcement of Scooby-Doo's resurrection comes a little over ten years after the last live-action Scooby-Doo adventure came out in theaters (Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed). Raja Gosnell directed that Scooby-Doo sequel and its predecessor, 2002's Scooby-Doo, based on scripts by James Gunn. The first film was a financial success, bringing in $268 million globally, perhaps the reason why Warner Bros. is so eager to bring another adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series to life.
