Aliens: Colonial Marines was playable this past weekend at PAX and we have a fifty minute gameplay video for you to watch. We also have new screenshots and the first details on playable characters within the game.
Gamers have been complaining that there weren't playable female characters within the game and even started a petition that gained a decent amount of support. The complaints started because of misquote around the time of E3, which seemed to state that there would be no playable females in the game. However, the quote was referring to the E3 demo and Gearbox decided to announce their co-op characters early, so that gamers were aware that a playable female marine is included in the game:
"Earlier this year, we released the box art for Aliens: Colonial Marines which features four colonial marines – Cruz, Bella, Winter and O’Neal – who serve as major characters throughout the game.
Specifically, Winter is the main protagonist in the campaign and is joined by Bella, Cruz and O-Neal at various points while exploring the U.S.S. Sulaco and the surface of LV-426.
But these aren’t the only marines that will be joining Winter in his mission.
Meet Demarcus Short, Jennifer Redding and Guillermo Quintaro.
Demarcus, Jennifer and Guillermo appear as playable characters in co-op. When playing through the campaign in co-op, the host controls Winter with the rest of the party able to choose between players Demarcus, Jennifer and Guillermo -- complete with a variety of customization elements we’ll have more on later."
Synopsis: “Aliens: Colonial Marines begins with an ostensibly abandoned ship, the U.S.S. Sulaco, recovered in orbit around LV-426. Players lead a group of highly trained United States Colonial Marines as they board the deserted craft to uncover the fate of the crew. They will have to fight to survive unspeakable horrors and their own anxieties as they chase down the truth behind a galaxy-spanning deception that places humanity at the mercy of the most murderous and deadly species in the universe. Aliens: Colonial Marines features authentic environments, such as the surface of LV-426 and Hadley’s Hope, weapons inspired by the film series and is designed to provide an exhilarating and engaging new chapter in the Aliens universe.”
Gearbox Software is currently developing Aliens: Colonial Marines for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, with an official release date of February 12th, 2013.
