September’s home entertainment releases are off to a great start, as there are some truly stellar titles being released this Tuesday, including Ari Aster’s highly talked about Hereditary. The chilling anthology Ghost Stories also arrives on both formats on this week, and if you missed it during its festival run or over on Shudder, Found Footage 3D makes its way home on Blu-ray and DVD as well. Arrow Video has a Special Edition of Dario Argento’s Deep Red on tap, and Disney is keeping busy with their 25th anniversary releases of both Hocus Pocus and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Other notable releases for September 4th include Lake Placid: Legacy, The Barn, Epidemic, Hostile, Trench 11, and The Bad Nun.

Deep Red: Special Edition (Arrow Video, Blu-ray)

From Dario Argento, maestro of the macabre and the man behind some of the greatest excursions in Italian horror (Suspiria, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage), comes Deep Red the ultimate giallo movie. One night, musician Marcus Daly (David Hemmings, Blow-Up), looking up from the street below, witnesses the brutal axe murder of a woman in her apartment. Racing to the scene, Marcus just manages to miss the perpetrator... or does he? As he takes on the role of amateur sleuth, Marcus finds himself ensnared in a bizarre web of murder and mystery where nothing is what it seems...

Aided by a throbbing score from regular Argento-collaborators Goblin, Deep Red (aka Profondo Rosso and The Hatchet Murders) is a hallucinatory fever dream of a giallo punctuated by some of the most astonishing set-pieces the sub-genre has to offer.

Found Footage 3D (Magnolia Home Entertainment/Shudder, Blu-ray & DVD)

When he’s hired to document the behind-the-scenes action of the ultralow-budget horror movie Spectre of Death (“the first 3D found-footage horror film”), an aspiring filmmaker packs up his camera and travels with the film’s crew to a creepy cabin in the woods. But when the fictional evil presence from their film begins appearing in his behind-the-scenes footage, he has to figure out how to stop it, or it just may find its way into the real world.

Ghost Stories (Scream Factory/IFC Midnight, Blu-ray & DVD)

GHOST STORIES stars Andy Nyman as Professor Goodman, a psychologist and skeptic, who has his rationality tested when he stumbles across a long-lost file containing details of three terrifying hauntings. He then embarks on a mission to find rational explanations for the ghostly happenings. Paul Whitehouse (“The Death of Stalin”) and Alex Lawther (“The Imitation Game”) also star alongside Martin Freeman, known to audiences worldwide as Dr. Watson in Sherlock.

Hereditary (Lionsgate, 4K Ultra HD/Blu/Digital Combo, Blu/Digital & DVD)

When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter's family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.

Take home Hereditary and go behind the scenes with the cast and crew in a featurette exclusive to the home entertainment release, offering a revealing account of what it took to create this harrowing tale. Also included in the home entertainment release are nine never-before-seen deleted scenes and an “Evil in Miniature” photo gallery.

Lake Placid: Legacy (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, DVD)

When a group of young explorers ventures to a mysterious lake, they discover an island harboring an abandoned lab facility with a horrific legacy: the island is home to a deadly predator. Before they can turn back, the crew gets dragged into a battle for their lives – former enemies will quickly need to put their egos aside and work together if there is any hope for survival.
