If you're not caught up with The Walking Dead comic book series, or you haven't read the series at all and wish to avoid The Walking Dead spoilers altogether, then go no further, for there are MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

It's something we knew would happen one day. Even in the early years of this website, it's something that Robert Kirkman told Daily Dead would happen. It's something he was planning to do for a long time. But that doesn't make it any less shocking now that it's happened.

Rick Grimes has been killed in The Walking Dead comic book series.

This may come as no surprise to readers of issue #191, which came out on May 1st from Skybound. That issue ended with Rick Grimes being shot in the chest in his own bed by a nighttime visitor, Sebastian Milton, who was none too pleased that Rick's speech to prevent a war at the Commonwealth resulted in the imprisonment of his mother, Governor Milton.

Sebastian is a young man in his early to mid 20s. He has encountered only a fraction of what Rick Grimes has faced in the post-apocalypse. He has endured a sliver of the hardships Rick Grimes has endured. And as unfair as the living dead world can be, he is the one to put an end to the comic book legend.

As readers of issue #192 know, though, justice has been served, and the demand for issue #192 is so high that Image/Skybound Entertainment are rushing the latest issue back to print with a commemorative cover (see below), which is expected to be released on July 3rd, the same day issue #193 hits shelves.

If you want to learn more about the decision to kill Rick Grimes, read Robert Kirkman's insightful interview with The New York Times, and we also have preview pages of Charlie Adlard's artwork depicting Rick's death and the aftermath below (via The New York Times).

Press Release: PORTLAND, Ore. 06/05/2019 — Image/Skybound Entertainment is pleased to announce that THE WALKING DEAD #192 by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard is immediately being rushed back to print in order to keep up with overwhelming customer demand for this event issue and will get a commemorative cover treatment.

THE WALKING DEAD #192 commemorative cover will feature imagery showcasing the latest twist to the series—the details of which were first scooped by the New York Times this morning—and will be on shelves the same day as THE WALKING DEAD #193 hits stores.

THE WALKING DEAD #192 explores the aftermath of the previous issue as Carl fights for the Commonwealth… but who is he fighting against?

THE WALKING DEAD #192 (Diamond Code APR198094) will be available on Wednesday, July 3. The final order cutoff for comic shop retailers is Monday, June 10.

SPOILER AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE WALKING DEAD #191 & #192!
