Dick Smith was presented with an honorary Oscar on Sunday during the 2011 Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' Governors Awards. For those that may not be familiar with his name, you're definitely familiar with his work.

Known as "The Godfather of Makeup", Dick Smith is the man responsible for the fantastic makeup effects in The Exorcist. With a career spanning over 50 years, he's worked on dozens of projects, including The GodfatherDark Shadows, Taxi Driver, Scanners, and many more. Unfortunately, the category for Best Makeup was not included in the Academy Awards until 1981, so some of Dick Smith's best work was not eligible for an award at the time.
