With the new year nearly upon us, the 2018 Golden Globe Award nominations were announced today, and Guillermo del Toro fans will be pleased to know that his latest film, The Shape of Water (read our review here), has been nominated seven times—the most nominations by any other film or television series this year.
As evidenced by the full list of nominations below (via EW), The Shape of Water has been recognized by the Foreign Press Association for its writing, directing, music, and performances, including acting nominations for Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer, and Richard Jenkins, and "Best Director – Motion Picture" and "Best Screenplay – Motion Picture" nominations for del Toro, the lattermost of which he shares with screenwriter Vanessa Taylor.
Jordan Peele's Get Out is nominated for "Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy" and "Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy" (for Daniel Kaluuya's role as Chris Washington).
Stranger Things and Game of Thrones are nominated for "Best Television Series – Drama", and Kyle MacLachlan garnered a well-earned nomination for his multiple acting roles on the Twin Peaks event series.
Not to be left out of the conversation is David Harbour, who also received a nomination for his work as Chief of Police Jim Hopper on Stranger Things. We'll find out who the winners are when the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards airs on NBC on January 7th, 2018.
