David Gordon Green's remake of Suspiria was officially announced last month and has now cast its lead actress. You may recognize Isabelle Fuhrman from her roles in Orphan and The Hunger Games. According to Variety, she has officially landed the role of Suzie in the upcoming remake.
Filming begins in September, so it may be a few months before the final cast is locked in. We've included part of last month's official announcement below. From the plot synopsis and previous David Gordon Green quotes, it would appear that the story will be quite similar to the original:
"Crime Scene Pictures partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris today announced they will join forces with producers Francesco Melzi d’Eril (I Am Love, Hotel Rwanda) from Memo Films and Luca Guadagnino (I Am Love) under his First Sun film banner to produce and finance SUSPIRIA, based on Dario Argento’s 1977 film of the same name. David Gordon Green (All the Real Girls, Pineapple Express) will direct from a script he penned with Chris Gebert. Rizal Risjad, Silvia Fendi and Philip Elway will executive produce and Lisa Muskat will co-produce. Wild Bunch plans to sell international territories at Cannes in May while CAA represents the U.S. distribution rights.
Scheduled to begin filming in September, SUSPIRIA is a horror film centered on Suzie, a bright and ambitious American student who travels to Europe to attend a world renowned school. After a fellow student is brutally murdered and several other cruel and strange homicides disrupt the once quiet life on campus, Suzie realizes that the academy may be a front for a more menacing organization."
