One has embodied the likes of devious demigod Loki and the moody musician/vampire Adam, while the other has directed thought-provoking films like Kill List, Sightseers, and A Field in England. They both have impressive, diverse résumés, and Tom Hiddleston and Ben Wheatley are coming together in the upcoming High-Rise, based on the 1975 J.G. Ballard novel of the same name. Very little has been revealed from the film, but today the first look at Hiddleston as anti-hero Dr. Robert Laing was unveiled.
Empire revealed the first photo of Hiddleston. Directed by Wheatley off a screenplay penned by constant collaborator Amy Jump, High-Rise stars Hiddleston, Luke Evans as "class warrior/documentarian Richard Wilder", Jeremy Irons as "Anthony Royal, the building’s architect", Sienna Miller as "Charlotte, Royal’s aide", and James Purefoy as "upper-class nitwit, Pangbourne." The film has yet to receive a released date, so stay tuned to Daily Dead for more updates.
For those unfamiliar with the book, here's the official synopsis: "When a class war erupts inside a luxurious apartment block, modern elevators become violent battlegrounds and cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on “enemy” floors. In this visionary tale, human society slips into violent reverse as once-peaceful residents, driven by primal urges, re-create a world ruled by the laws of the jungle."
