Cpl. Dwayne Hicks with a half-melted face and a shotgun. Ellen Ripley in a Space Jockey helmet. Ripley wearing explosives around her waist with her thumb poised above the detonator, and so much more—writer/director Neill Blomkamp's (District 9, Elysium) concept art for an unmade, unofficial Alien film made the online rounds last month and showed us that Neill has some interesting ideas for his own Alien movie.
On the press tour for the upcoming Chappie, Blomkamp was asked about his vivid Alien franchise artwork and his responses give the impression that his potential Alien film could be more of a reality than a fantasy.
Speaking with UPROXX, Neill Blomkamp revealed that he did his Alien sketches and illustrations while considering his next project. The time he spent with Sigourney Weaver on the set of Chappie inspired within Blomkamp a story for a new Alien film that would include Ellen Ripley, and Blomkamp explored his ideas through concept art, the majority of which has not been revealed to the public. Blomkamp also said he has "developed an entire movie" for the Alien franchise.
While it might seem like Blomkamp writing/directing an Alien film would be prevented by red tape and studio reluctance, the Chappie director says that 20th Century Fox would be game to bring his vision to fruition, and that he himself is the hesitant one:
"Me. I’m the problem. Fox, they would make it. Like, tomorrow. They would make it."
Despite not being currently in love with jumping back into the director's chair (not just for an Alien movie, but for any film) due to being a little weary of the Hollywood system, Blomkamp is far from abandoning the movie that could exist from his artwork:
"There’s a high possibility, a high degree of chance that it happens that I go back and try to get Alien made."
